More About Woven Baskets

What are the common materials for woven planter baskets? What’s the core difference?
Our woven planter baskets fall into two main commercial categories:
  1. Natural fiber baskets: made of rattan, willow, seagrass, water hyacinth or paper rope, with authentic handwoven texture, warm natural tone and excellent air permeability. They are the mainstream choice for indoor soft decoration.
  2. PE synthetic rattan baskets: made of high-density polyethylene fiber, water-proof, UV-resistant and fade-proof. They replicate the look of natural rattan but deliver far better outdoor durability.

Natural fiber baskets are naturally porous and not leak-proof — soil and water will seep through gaps, which may damage floors and tabletops. PE rattan baskets have tighter weaving and better water resistance, but still cannot hold water continuously for long-term planting.

We recommend using them as decorative outer covers for nursery pots, or pairing them with custom-fit waterproof plastic liners for direct planting. All our basket models can be matched with dedicated liners.

Natural plant fiber is an organic material, so baskets may develop mold or moth damage in long-term humid, unventilated environments — this is an inherent material property, not a quality defect.

To avoid issues: place baskets in well-ventilated areas, avoid prolonged water immersion, wipe dry promptly after getting wet, and use waterproof liners to isolate soil moisture. PE synthetic rattan baskets will never mold or attract pests, and require no special maintenance for outdoor use.

Yes. High-quality PE rattan is specially formulated for outdoor scenarios. It withstands UV exposure, rain, high temperature and light frost, and will not rot, fade or turn brittle like natural fiber. It is widely used for patios, courtyards, commercial streetscapes and resort landscapes.

Under normal outdoor conditions, commercial-grade PE rattan baskets stay in good condition for 5–8 years. Low-quality recycled PE products may fade and become brittle within 1–2 years.

Load capacity depends on material, size and structure:
  • Small to medium baskets: stably bear 10–30 lbs, suitable for desktop and countertop greenery.
  • Large floor-standing reinforced baskets: bear 50–80 lbs, suitable for large potted plants.

For extra-large planters with heavy soil and mature trees, we offer models with solid metal inner frames to prevent deformation and ensure stability. We recommend confirming load requirements at order placement.
Yes, handwoven structure allows high customization flexibility. Available options include:
  • Dimensions: custom diameter, height, and shapes (round, square, rectangular, tapered, etc.)
  • Material & color: optional natural fiber or PE rattan, multiple color tones
  • Details: integrated or detachable handles, brand hang tags, adjustable weave patterns
  • Accessories: matching waterproof liners, inner support frames, non-slip foot pads

MOQ for custom models varies by complexity. Contact us for a detailed quote.
Service life varies significantly by material and usage environment:
  • Natural fiber baskets: 2–5 years in dry indoor environments; 1–3 years in humid environments or occasional outdoor use.
  • PE synthetic rattan baskets: 5–8 years for outdoor use; over 10 years for indoor use, with almost no natural wear.

Proper maintenance and liner use can effectively extend service life.
  • Natural woven baskets: Dust regularly with a dry cloth or soft brush. For stains, wipe with a damp cloth and air-dry immediately in a ventilated place. Do not soak in water for long periods, and avoid strong detergents which may cause fiber breakage and discoloration.
  • PE rattan baskets: Very low maintenance. Rinse directly with water or wipe with a damp cloth; neutral detergent can be used for stubborn stains. No special seasonal maintenance is required throughout the year.

Woven baskets are the most popular soft-decoration planter category for commercial spaces. They add warm natural texture and are widely used in hotel lobbies, boutique retail, homestays, flower shops, model rooms and home decor.

Compared with ceramic, fiberglass and other hard planters, they are lighter, easier to move and replace, have a softer visual style, and will not scratch floors and tabletops. They are ideal for seasonal flower arrangement and temporary commercial display.

Natural fiber baskets are made of pure natural plant raw materials, biodegradable, formaldehyde-free and non-toxic. New products may have a slight natural plant fiber scent, which dissipates within a few days in a ventilated place.

High-quality PE rattan uses food-grade raw materials, is recyclable, has no pungent odor, and meets indoor environmental protection standards. Low-quality recycled PE may have a plastic odor, which does not occur with our commercial-grade products.
